Holiday Group Programs

This program of support has been developed using Sounds-Write, an evidence-based program designed to teach children how to listen to the sounds in words for spelling, and how to blend them together for reading.

The Sounds-Write program can be used as a K-2 curriculum, or a fast and effective intervention for children and adolescents who require ongoing support with reading and spelling.

Parents will engage in some parent-coaching to support ongoing home practice with the supplied take home booklet. Once the program is completed, your child may benefit from ongoing support with one of our Allied Health Assistants.

The program provides a framework for parents and caregivers to purposefully add language to book-sharing experiences to help develop the communication and thinking skills of children over 4 years (Prep-ready). The strategies are evidenced based techniques carefully embedded into routine story time activities. The groups also support the development and awareness of speech sounds and emergent literacy skills to prepare children for later reading success.

SKILLS
The following strategies are modelled and taught to parents:

• Asking ‘WH’ questions and turning book reading into a conversation;
• Print awareness and letter-sounds, syllables and rhyme, sound awareness and speech;
• Targeting vocabulary and highlighting interesting new words from book;
• Expanding sentences to support grammatical structures;

• 22nd Jan from 3:00pm to 4:15pm (Prep – Grade 3)

Building social skills brick by brick! Come and join in the fun of building with lego and practice listening and following directions from peers, as well as communication and social skills.

• 14th Jan from 9:00am to 10:15am (Prep – Grade 3)
• 21st Jan from 9:00am to 10:15am (Grade 4 and above)

Create your world, block by block! Join us for Minecraft Mania, where we’ll have fun strengthening communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Together, we’ll unleash our creativity and collaborate on exciting Minecraft inspired builds while building meaningful connections along the way! (This group is device free).

• 23rd Jan from 2:00pm to 3:15pm (Grade 4 and above)

Stretch your creativity and communication skills in our slime-making workshop. During this workshop your child will work in a team to follow instructions, communicate together, and build their very own slime.

• 13th Jan from 9:00am to 10:15am — Make kinetic sand (Grade 4 and above)
• 20th Jan from 9:00am to 10:15am — Make a clay city (Prep – Grade 3)

Welcome to Craft and Chat! We will get creative while building social skills through two fun activities: making kinetic sand and designing a Clay City. The groups aim to practice teamwork and celebrate everyone’s unique ideas. Let’s craft, connect, and have fun!

• 17th Jan from 9:30am to 10:45am — Make a volcano (Prep – Grade 3)
• 22nd Jan from 12:00pm to 1:15pm — Make and race a balloon car (Grade 4 and above)

Our science social group will be a blast! Come join us combine exciting experiments, team challenges, and interactive discussions to spark curiosity and develop team work, problem solving and following instructions in a fun and supportive environment.
